This privacy policy applies to the Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank Mobile Application and the Internet Banking Portal (hereby referred to as “Application”) developed by Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank’s Software Vendor (Qore) hereby referred to as “Service Provider”. This Privacy Policy details the personal information we collect during the usage of the Application, what we do with it and how we ensure the information is protected.


Information Collection and Usage

The Application collects information when you download and use it or when you visit our Internet Banking Page to enrol for Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank Mobile Banking. This information may include;

Your identification documents, other third parties information such as payment gateways and other electronic communication reflecting information such as your name, address, identification numbers, biometric information, telephone number, location, occupation and any other information the Application may deem necessary. The Application does not gather precise information about the location of your mobile device.

The Application uses your approximate geographical location to make use of:

  • Geolocation Services: The Service Provider utilizes location data to provide features such as personalized content, relevant recommendations, and location-based services.
  • Analytics and Improvements: Aggregated and anonymized location data helps the Service Provider to analyze user behavior, identify trends, and improve the overall performance and functionality of the Application.
  • Third-Party Services: Periodically, the Service Provider may transmit anonymized location data to external services. These services assist them in enhancing the Application and optimizing their offerings.

 Governing Principles

Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank will always comply with the principles outlined below for the purpose of collecting, storing and using a User’s personal information.

  • Data shall be collected and processed with a specific, legitimate and lawful purpose.
  • Data collection and processing shall be adequate, accurate and with consideration for the dignity of the human person;
  • Data shall only be stored for the period which is reasonably needed and as required by the relevant and applicable laws; and 
  • Data shall be secured against all foreseeable hazards and breaches such as theft, cyberattack, viral attack, dissemination, and manipulations of any kind.

The lawful basis we rely on for processing your Personal Information are:

  • Your consent; Where you agree to us collecting your Personal Information by using our Services.
  • We have a contractual obligation: Without your Personal Information, we cannot provide our Services to you.

Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank also has a legal obligation to ensure full compliance with all Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Laws. Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank protects against fraud by checking your identity with your Personal Information.

 Third Parties

Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank provides such information to our subsidiaries, affiliated companies or other trusted third-party service providers or persons for the purpose of processing personal information on our behalf, including validating user credentials, securing data storage, marketing, customer service, fraud detection and other applicable services. Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank requires that these parties agree to process such information based on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures we consider essential and relevant subject to applicable law. Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank requires that these third-parties providers use PII and PID only in connection with the services they perform for Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank.

Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank may share User information with law enforcement agencies, government officials, or other third parties in the event of a court order or similar legal procedure, regulatory disclosure or when Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank believes in good faith that the disclosure of User information is necessary or advisable to report suspected illegal activity or to protect Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank’s property or legal rights.

Except as expressly disclosed in this Privacy policy, Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank will not sell or disclose User information to third parties. Al-Barakah Microfinance Bank may disclose aggregated or other types of non-personally identifiable information to third parties for various purposes. 


Opt-Out Rights

You can stop all collection of information by the Application easily by uninstalling it. You may use the standard uninstall processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or network.


Location

All Personal Information you provide to us is stored on our secure servers as well as secure physical locations and cloud infrastructure (where applicable) for the purposes of providing seamless services to you, including but not limited to ensuring business continuity, the data that we collect from you may be transferred to or stored in cloud locations at globally accepted vendors’ data centre. Whenever your information is transferred to other locations, we will take all necessary steps to ensure that your data is handled securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

 Data Confidentiality

We ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent loss, unauthorized access, misuse, modification or disclosure of information under our control some of the measures taken include;

  • Ensuring adequate technological security measures to prevent fraud and intrusion.
  • Regular updates of security controls to meet and surpass industry standards.
  • Regular training of our staff to ensure confidentiality of customers data of any personal information held by us

Where you have chosen a password which grants you access to our Online Banking platform or Mobile Application, you are responsible for keeping this password safe by not disclosing to anyone or writing it where it might be accessible . We request that you do not to share your password or other authentication details (e.g. token generated codes) with anyone.

 Changes To This Policy

We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting a revised version on this page. The revised version will be effective at the time we post it unless we provide additional notice or an opportunity to “opt-in” because changes are material or retroactive. If you keep using our Services, you consent to all amendments to this Privacy Policy.

 Storage of your Data

Our secured servers as well as secure physical locations and cloud infrastructures are used to safeguard all Personal Information you provide to us for the purposes of providing seamless services to you. The data that we collect from you may be transferred to or stored in cloud locations at globally accepted vendors’ data center to  ensure business continuity when implementing our disaster recovery plan.

 Your rights

  • Uninterrupted access to your personal information held by us which can be accessed by our electronic channels or by sending a mail to our email address info@albarakahmfb.com or albarakahmfbank@gmail.com
  • To rectify inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Objecting to processing of your personal data. However, we might need to process your data if there are valid legal or operational reasons
  • Specifying the electronic format you want your personal data be made available to you and/or request that such data be sent to a third party.
  • Request that your information be erased. However, we might continue to retain such data if there are valid legal, regulatory or operational reasons.
